Day 21 - Doctor Dust - Slot Review

On day 21, I took on Doctor Dust by Bullshark Gaming, a 5x5 cascading cluster slot set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with a max win of 12,000x. Bullshark is one of the main studios built on Hacksaw's OpenRGS. They released bunch of good titles and this one is slightly a new one like a remake of their previous title Age of Seth.

In the game, we follow plague doctor like character in a gas mask scavenging through the ruins, and the design sits somewhere between Fallout and Mad Max, with rust, toxic green and dirt.

Wins come from clusters of 4 or more matching symbols, and every symbol that wins gets collected in a bar next to the grid. That bar is the heart of the game. It has 5 segments of 8 symbols each, and every segment you fill in a single spin unlocks a Grid Booster that reshapes the grid once the cascades settle. The collection resets on every base game spin, so what matters is how many winning symbols you can chain in one go.

There are four Grid Boosters, and they trigger one by one in random order:

Clone copies a random row onto 1 or 2 rows next to it.

Switch turns 1 to 3 rows into whatever symbol sits first in each row.

Wilds drops 2 to 5 wilds on the grid, and some of them carry multipliers from 2x up to 100x.

Power Line wipes a random row and column, refills them and puts a random multiplier from 2x to 100x on every cell in them.

Wilds only come from the Wilds booster and never land on a normal spin, and the multipliers stick to their cells until they’re part of a win, where they add together and get paid.

The bonus is Surface Search, and you trigger it by collecting 40 winning symbols in a single base game spin. It always opens with a spin that has all 4 boosters, and after that every spin comes with at least one. Every segment you fill gives you a booster for the next spin, and as long as you collect at least 8 symbols per spin the bonus keeps going, with no limit on retriggers.

Collect even more than 40 and the extra symbols pre-fill the bar. Hit 72 and you get the Toxic Vault, the same bonus but with the first two spins both loaded with all 4 boosters.

So the plan for winning is to chain big clusters in one spin, stack multipliers on the cells that end up in wins, and in the bonus keep filling at least one segment every spin so it never ends. (But it always does :D)

During the 1,000 spins session I landed Surface Search 6 times. None of them paid a crazy multiplier, but they were decent overall, and my biggest win was 117x.

The base game is a lot of fun, and it’s a big part of the game because it builds up to the bonus round. In that sense it reminds me of Blood & Shadows 2 from Nolimit City, with some similarities to a few Play’n GO classics and Gems Bonanza from Pragmatic Play.

I had to use a VPN during the session, so there were a few interruptions that slowed me down and took some of the fun out of it. Still, I saw everything the game has to offer and enjoyed it.
